Eva Mendes has expressed her appreciation for the media’s discretion in not publishing images revealing her daughters’ faces during their recent visit to the Paris Olympics.
“As soon as I spot photographers when I’m out and about, my defenses immediately go up,” the actress shared on Instagram, accompanying a selfie showcasing the Parisian skyline.
Mendes and her spouse Ryan Gosling attended the dressage individual Grand Prix freestyle event together, and also brought their daughters – Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amada Lee, 7 – to watch the women’s uneven bars gymnastics final.
Followers on Mendes’ post empathized with her efforts to maintain privacy during family outings.
“The media was considerate about not photographing the children, so I’m a thankful mama bear,” she responded to one supporter.
To another fan, Mendes wrote, “I’m pleased that @nbcolympics didn’t focus on the kids! And most outlets blurred their faces, which makes this mama bear happy.”
Both Mendes and Gosling are known for their dedication to protecting their daughters’ privacy and have spoken openly about prioritizing family.
“I tend to avoid roles that might put me in a dark headspace,” Gosling recently told WSJ Magazine. “Right now, I’m focused on what’s best for all of us at home. Eva and I make decisions with our family as the primary consideration.”
In a separate interview with Men’s Health, the actor stated, “Family always comes first. I don’t think I’ll have any professional regrets, but when it comes to Eva and the girls, they’re my top priority.”
Familyguide® previously reported on Mendes’ stance regarding keeping her children away from the internet:
Actress Eva Mendes is among many parents who restrict their children’s access to social media and the internet.
“When my kids ask if they’re old enough for internet access, social media, or anything requiring wifi,” the actress captioned a video of herself shaking her head and finger disapprovingly.
Mendes and partner Ryan Gosling are parents to Esmeralda, 8, and Amada, 7.
In her post’s comments, the actress expanded on her views about children and social media, writing, “I’m just sharing my current feelings, but I know it will become more challenging as they grow older.”
When a follower suggested that internet access is inevitable in today’s world, Mendes replied, “That may be true, but in my household, children don’t have internet access. It’s too risky. Just as drinking, voting, or getting a driver’s license isn’t permitted for children, internet use falls into that category for me. Especially social media.”
Asked if she had a specific age in mind for when her daughters could go online, Mendes explained, “To be honest, I’m not sure. I’ll have to see how things progress. For now, I’m observing them and staying informed about research on how social media can affect a child’s development. I’m taking it one step at a time.”
