You Won’t Believe What Olympic Gold Medalist Simone Biles Says About Her Adoptive Parents!

By Familyguide Contributor

Olympic gymnast Simone Biles attributes her athletic achievements to her adoptive parents.

“Without my parents and adoption, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” she stated to TODAY after the Paris Olympics, where she secured three gold medals and one silver.

At age 3, Biles and her siblings entered foster care due to their mother’s struggles with substance abuse. When Simone turned 6, her biological grandparents, Ronald and Nellie Biles, formally adopted her and her sister Adria.

“The experience of being separated from my birth mother and going through foster care before my grandparents adopted me ultimately set me on a better life path,” Biles revealed during an episode of her Facebook Watch series, SIMONE VS. HERSELF.

She added, “I believe I wouldn’t be the Simone Biles the world knows today without that pivotal moment. While I’d still be myself, I might not have achieved the same level of recognition. I truly believe everything happens for a reason, and I’m eternally grateful for that second chance at life.”

Biles often expresses her appreciation for her parents in interviews and on social media platforms.

A 2021 Instagram post states, “Thank you for making sacrifices from day one so I could pursue my dreams. More importantly, thank you for always being there through the ups and downs. You’re truly the best. I love you both so much.”

Familyguide previously reported on Biles’ relationship with her parents:

Nellie Biles, mother of four-time Olympic gold gymnast Simone Biles, prays for her daughter’s safety during competitions and as she prepares for Paris 2024.

“My thoughts and prayers are focused on her staying safe and completing her routine. I’m always anxious for it to be over,” Nellie shared with TODAY.com.

With the upcoming Olympic games, Nellie is committed to ensuring Simone feels her family’s unwavering support.

“Our priority is to be there for Simone and make sure she knows her family fully supports her,” she explained. “I’ll be overjoyed and likely shedding tears due to the emotional nature of it all.”
