“You Won’t Believe How This Simple Family Tradition Transformed a Worship Leader’s Daughter”

Christian musician Matt Redman’s daughter Maisey recently shared insights into her family’s cherished traditions and discussed how she hopes to continue them with her own future family.

“Our family has this wonderful tradition of giving speeches on birthdays. Each sibling, along with mom and dad, would write a speech, and we’d all gather to deliver them to the birthday person,” Maisey explained on the “LO Mama” podcast.

“It was quite unique because we were all fairly young, but our parents taught us how to affirm each other and speak positively about one another. It was also beneficial because we learned to graciously receive encouragement without feeling awkward,” she continued.

Maisey appreciated the private nature of this tradition, saying, “I love that it wasn’t shared on social media. My parents didn’t post about it. It was almost sacred, a very intimate thing we did together without making a big fuss.”

She added, “It was fascinating because my brothers would say things I had no idea they thought about me. It was an incredible tradition that didn’t feel forced; it felt like we were being called to a higher standard. I think it’s given us a great ability to express positivity.”

While Maisey values her family traditions, she also appreciates her British cultural heritage, which has become more apparent since moving to the United States for her education.

“I’ve always appreciated tradition, but living in America has intensified that love and appreciation,” Maisey shared. “I truly admire the royal family. I value the tradition because, with so much constant change in culture and news, it’s comforting to have these constant figures who feel like part of your story, even though you’ve never met them.”

Maisey recalled celebrating royal events at school, saying, “We’d have special days where we’d dress up and have big meals outside to celebrate events like the Queen’s Jubilee. The royal family has provided many opportunities for people to come together, share meals, and create memories, even if you don’t know them personally.”

Having graduated from Wheaton College last year, Maisey is now pursuing her artistic passions. She recently launched an Instagram page showcasing her artwork, including a piece titled “The Promise,” which serves as a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

“‘The Promise’ draws inspiration from Genesis 8, where God’s covenant with Noah is symbolized by a dove,” Maisey explained. “This illustration reminds us of God’s unwavering promise to be with His people until the very end. The dove holding an olive leaf represents this promise, with several olive leaves hidden throughout the drawing.”

DUCK DYNASTY’s Korie Robertson and Beth Redman, Matt Redman’s wife, recently discussed ways families can create lasting legacies.

“Much of what I’ve learned about legacy comes from observing families in my church,” Redman shared. “It wasn’t through seminars or sermons, but by watching their lives in action, especially during times of hospitality.”

Robertson added, “I’m fortunate to have parents who love the Lord and raised me in faith, as did Willie. But there were also others in the church community who acted as spiritual mentors to me. I see the same happening for our daughters. It’s crucial to utilize the church for its intended purpose.”
