Authorities are alerting parents to a rise in the disturbing “Door Kicking” challenge, where youngsters are engaging in nighttime pranks that involve forcefully kicking people’s front doors.
“While ‘ding dong ditch’ has been a classic, relatively harmless prank for generations, today’s kids are escalating things to a more dangerous level by kicking in doors and causing damage,” stated the Fleetwood Police Department in Pennsylvania, as reported by Fox News. “Beyond the financial burden on homeowners who have to pay for repairs, there’s a real risk of a child getting seriously injured or even killed by someone who believes their home is being invaded and feels their life and property are in danger.”
Depending on the jurisdiction and the severity of their actions, children caught participating in this challenge could face charges ranging from trespassing and property damage to even burglary. Conversely, residents who act in self-defense, potentially even using a firearm, would likely be justified in such a situation.
“Some kids might see this as a harmless joke, but the person on the receiving end might not,” Lansdale Police Chief Mike Trail told NBC 10 Philadelphia. “These actions can have disastrous consequences.”
Sadly, this isn’t the first instance of a hazardous and destructive trend gaining traction on social media. In 2021, the “Devious Lick” trend swept across TikTok, encouraging students to steal items from their schools, from boxes of masks to clocks, microscopes, and other valuable equipment.
While TikTok claims to quickly address and remove such trends, the reality often falls short. The Devious Lick trend, for example, circulated for weeks, with videos amassing millions of views before the platform took action.

“By now, devious licks has spread beyond TikTok. It’s everywhere – Instagram, Facebook, you name it. I’m not surprised they removed it, just surprised it got so far before they acted,” said influencer Phillip Hamilton.
The Door Kicking challenge seems to be following a similar pattern, continuing to spread despite being active since at least January 2024.
Platforms like TikTok need to prioritize censoring harmful and illegal content instead of profiting from it and putting their young users at serious risk.
