“Parents, This One Simple Switch Could Save Your Child’s Future (And It’s Not What You Think!)”

By Familyguide® Contributor

Kirk Cameron has proposed a solution for parents seeking to provide their children with the best possible future, and it begins with the books they’re reading.

“Remember Scholastic Book Fairs from your childhood? They were such a delight,” Cameron remarked during an episode of his “American Campfire Revival” podcast.

The actor pointed out that nowadays, many books marketed to children contain messages that some parents may find concerning.

“We discovered that Scholastic Books is responsible for producing much of the controversial content for children in schools and libraries today,” Cameron stated. “The landscape has shifted, and those making decisions at Scholastic seem to have been influenced by current social trends. Now, when a child brings home a Scholastic book from a fair, it’s more likely to explore themes that may not align with traditional family values.”

He added, “When parents are informed about this, many unfortunately respond with resignation, thinking, ‘Well, there’s nothing we can do about it.'”

Cameron posed the question, “What if there was an alternative to Scholastic Books… where children could access wholesome content that celebrated the values their families believe in?”

This led to the creation of Sky Tree Book Fairs, “formed by a group of concerned parents who collaborated with Kirk Cameron during his public library story hour tour and were inspired by his actions,” according to their website.

“They identified the need for a reliable and safe option for book distribution in schools. These parents recognized they were facing direct competition with companies like Scholastic but were determined to challenge the monopoly on children’s book publishing and distribution,” the description continued.

Cameron noted that “over a thousand schools” have switched their contracts from Scholastic to Sky Tree.

“We need to stop complaining and start creating the future we want for our children,” Cameron encouraged his viewers. “We should develop alternatives to the content we find problematic, create positive options for parents, churches, schools, and libraries to embrace, and then support these initiatives. God tends to multiply the things He loves.”

Cameron has been actively involved in providing moral literature for children, collaborating with Brave Books to publish a series of children’s books, including “The Fox, The Fair, and The Invention Scare” and “As You Grow.”

“We need resources to help establish a strong moral foundation, and BRAVE Books are the perfect tool for that,” Cameron stated on Brave Books’ website.

Familyguide® previously reported on Cameron’s commitment to cultural change:

Actor Kirk Cameron is explaining why he believes Christians should remain engaged with culture.

“I’m not waiting for some divine event to remove us from this world to escape the culture,” Cameron said as he prepared for the release of his new book, “Born to Be Brave: How to Be a Part of America’s Spiritual Comeback”. “I want to partner with you, my children, and your children and grandchildren as a family of faith to restore the culture and revive principles that bring heaven to earth. So please don’t give up on the culture. Give up on fear, give up on defeat, but don’t give up on the culture.”

Cameron went on to explain how he believes people of faith can contribute to cultural change.

“I’m praying for culture to have a change of heart, and that’s what we should be doing when we look at the world around us,” he said. “There are reasons for concern every day when we see challenges to our values in our children’s environments, our institutions, our country, and our school systems. But it doesn’t have to remain that way.

“In fact, when the values, faith, and worldview of the American people align with heavenly principles, that eventually manifests in our families, communities, and culture,” he continued. “That’s how positive cultures develop. People of faith who have the courage to stand up for their beliefs, speak the truth in love, and apply these principles not only in their personal lives but also in public life – that’s our task.”
