“HGTV Star’s Revelation: How a Vintage Shop Miracle Led to God’s Unexpected Plan”

By Familyguide Contributor

HGTV personality Jenny Marrs is reflecting on “how God operates in ALL circumstances” as she reminisces about a significant period in her family’s journey.

“A dozen years ago, we utilized our spare time to establish a small storefront where we sold vintage items, furniture crafted by Dave, and chalkboards that Dave built and I decorated,” she shared in a recent Instagram post. “We did this to generate funds for our adoption and subsequent nonprofit called ‘Feed Their Tummies,’ which provided meals for children at Sylvie’s orphanage and two other orphanages in Kinshasa, DRC. We named the shop ‘Bayt Boutique’ because we had initiated our adoption process in Ethiopia, and Bayt means ‘home’ in Amharic.”

Marrs described the store as “a passion project and a means to channel my energy into something tangible while we anxiously awaited our daughter’s arrival.”

“As I worked and painted (and painted some more), I prayed (and prayed even more). It also served as a beautiful way for our community to support us in a concrete manner,” she continued. “I vividly recall the joy and laughter that filled this space. I’ll never forget how friends and their acquaintances would appear when we opened our doors – during a challenging period, the time spent in this building was incredibly healing for my soul.”

Fast forward twelve years, and Marrs is “currently delving into the book of Jeremiah.”

“Just yesterday, I noted in the margin of chapter 13, ‘God reveals just one step at a time…not the entire picture…’ and then this morning, Timehop reminded me of Bayt Boutique,” she wrote. “It was a single step taken long ago. I couldn’t envision the bigger picture then. I didn’t foresee that we would once again have a space to welcome people and offer handmade items for their homes. Marrs Mercantile wasn’t on my radar, yet it has become a blessing in this busy season. It’s a place to express creativity in a unique way and a platform to showcase the work of many other small businesses and artisans in our community.”

Marrs concluded, “Well, that was a roundabout way of saying, I can’t help but be in awe of how God works through EVERYTHING.”

Marrs frequently shares faith-based messages with her Instagram followers.

In a recent post, she emphasized “the significance of recognizing the sacredness in all things and all people.”

“Each of us possesses a great capacity for love,” Marrs wrote. “However, love isn’t a passive emotion or one that comes naturally in every situation. We must put effort into activating our ability to love…We must choose compassion. We must choose unity…We must choose kindness, encouragement, and doing what’s right without seeking recognition or applause. We must choose love.”

Familyguide previously reported on another post from Marrs that shared an answered prayer:

In a hectic and busy world, finding time to rest can be challenging. But HGTV star Jenny Marrs is sharing how she took a moment to slow down and refocus her priorities.

“When I looked at this week’s schedule, I felt overwhelmed. Instead of worrying about how I’d accomplish everything, I’ve prayed each morning for God to give me strength for what needs to be done, wisdom to discern what can wait for another day, and most importantly, to see glimpses of His love even in the midst of my busy schedule,” Marrs wrote on Instagram.

“Today, right in the middle of a hectic day of filming and checking on renovations, I had to stop by our neighbor’s barn to pick up something Dave needed to complete a project,” she continued. “I asked if anyone wanted to join me and Char and Luke eagerly volunteered to visit Mr. Tommy and his animals (especially the new baby donkey!). Just like that, time slowed down for a few minutes and we created a sweet memory together. An answered prayer, indeed.”

Marrs and her husband Dave are currently working on the sixth season of their popular show FIXER TO FABULOUS.

She recently shared her primary design tip in an interview with the Worcester Telegram & Gazette – “Keep it simple.”

“We live in a society that’s constantly trying to create content, but you need to set that aside and actually live your life, making it cozy and enjoyable,” Marrs continued. “If filling your house with seasonal decor doesn’t bring you peace, don’t do it. That’s our philosophy.”
