Shocking! Celebrity Mom’s Bold Move to Protect Daughter from Digital Dangers

Actress Drew Barrymore recently made headlines when she decided to take away her daughter’s phone, which she had given as an 11th birthday present. The star came to this decision after observing the negative impact of unrestricted access on her child.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Barrymore reflected on her own childhood experiences, stating, “As a kid, I often wished for someone to set boundaries. I craved rebellion because I had no limitations. With too much freedom and excess, I struggled to accept any form of authority due to my early autonomy.”

Barrymore, mother to two daughters aged 10 and 12, expressed her desire to provide the guidance she lacked in her youth. She wrote, “I’ve come to realize that I want nothing more than to protect my children. Kids need boundaries. They should hear ‘no’ sometimes. But we’re living in a world where adults are constantly attached to pocket-sized computers. How did we arrive at this point?”

The actress concluded, “I’ve decided I’m not prepared to let my children have phones yet. I aim to be the parent and adult figure I needed growing up. All we can do is try our best to navigate these challenges for ourselves and those in our care.”

This isn’t the first time Barrymore has taken steps to limit her children’s technology use. Last year, she revealed that she also restricts access to iPads, keeping them locked away except for special occasions. “While we enjoy watching movies and shows together, I’m not keen on personal electronics for my kids,” she told Better Homes & Gardens.

Barrymore’s stance aligns with many other celebrities who recognize the challenges of growing up in the public eye. Many stars believe that while technology and social media aren’t inherently harmful, exposing children to them too early can be problematic. As a result, numerous celebrities are choosing to limit their children’s access until they reach college age.

HGTV personalities Ben and Erin Napier have taken this concept even further by establishing an organization to support and empower other parents in maintaining a tech-free environment for their children while fostering a sense of community among those who share this approach.

As Familyguide previously reported, the Napiers launched a nonprofit called Osprey, dedicated to helping parents keep their children off social media. Erin Napier explained their motivation, saying, “If we create a culture at home and school where our child doesn’t expect access to the entire world in her pocket until she’s older, we can set her up for success.”

This growing trend among celebrities and parents alike reflects a broader concern about the impact of technology on young minds and the importance of setting healthy boundaries in the digital age.
