In a recent interview, John Luke Robertson and his wife Mary Kate reflected on how their involvement in DUCK DYNASTY affected the early years of their marriage.
The couple, who met in high school and got engaged before college, now recognize that the show’s popularity made their initial marital years more challenging than they might have been otherwise.
John shared with his sister Sadie Robertson Huff, “Looking back, I think our early marriage was probably more difficult due to our public lives. Without that level of public attention, we likely would have had an easier time. That period was so formative, and having so much focus on us wasn’t natural.”
Despite the challenges, the fame and pressure associated with the show did have some positive effects. It encouraged John and Mary Kate to marry young, a decision they’re grateful for now. John explained that the unique circumstances of their fame accelerated their relationship, saying, “There was a level of trust with Mary Kate that I think would have developed over a longer time without the show.”
Now that DUCK DYNASTY has ended and their lives have settled, the couple appreciates their increased privacy, particularly as they focus on raising their children.
“As we get older, we’re becoming more private,” John noted. “We see the importance of being who you are without having to share everything… the value of having your own private life.”
Familyguide previously reported on the couple’s first child:
DUCK DYNASTY alumni John Luke and Mary Kate Robertson welcomed their first child, son John Shepherd, this week.
The pair, who’ve been married for four years, revealed his name via social media.
“Robertson family of 3!!!” proud new mom Mary Kate wrote.
John Luke is the son of Willie and Korie Robertson.
The younger Robertsons announced their pregnancy in May.
The Robertsons continue to use their platform to celebrate family and faith. Mary Kate recently shared the song “Head to Toe (The Armor of God Song)” with her Instagram followers, writing, “This song in particular has just been playing on repeat in our house lately. What a way to sing the armor of God over your kids and have them learn the words themselves.”
