Is Screen Time Stealing Their Calling? 2 Kingdom Keys to Unlock Your Children's God-Given Focus!

Catherine Price, a health and science journalist and co-author of The Amazing Generation, is dedicated to enriching children's lives screen-free.

She collaborated with social psychologist Jonathan Haidt, author of The Anxious Generation for adults, to craft this book for young people.

According to Price, their goal is to "help kids and adults live meaningful, fulfilling, fun lives."

To encourage children to disengage from screens, they propose two primary strategies: fostering responsibility and developing real-world hobbies.

Price advises parents to assign children tasks they can accomplish on their own, such as household chores, preparing their own meals, running errands, or independently walking to school.

"It's likely to boost their confidence, provide enjoyment, and equip them with valuable skills for the future," Price noted.

Such activities can mutually benefit both children and parents, potentially easing anxiety for everyone involved.

Discover the off-screen pursuits your children enjoy and provide avenues for them to delve into their interests. If your child has a passion for the outdoors, for instance, consider taking them hiking or enrolling them in a group that offers regular outdoor exploration.

One mother of three teenagers permitted her children to convert their garage into a dedicated workout space.

"Now she has a group of teenage boys regularly coming to lift weights in her garage each afternoon," Price recounted.

Price further observed that adolescents possess a "developmentally appropriate desire to spend more time with their friends in private."

If guardians can facilitate these opportunities in a screen-free environment, the outcome is more beneficial for all involved.

Price shared that her book is “Written specifically for kids and tweens — and relevant whether or not they already have smartphones, tablets, or social media accounts — The Amazing Generation is designed to inspire young readers to join the growing rebellion of young people who are choosing to stand up to Big Tech and fill their lives with REAL friendship, freedom and fun.”

She clarified, “Its goal is to convince your kids to decide for themselves to protect their brains by delaying their own access to smartphones and social media, standing up for their right to a phone-free school day, taking on more real world challenges, and not letting ‘technology wizards’ steal their lives from them, literally from beneath their noses. (Translation: it talks to your kids for you!)”

Haidt asserted that the book empowers children to make sound choices independently.

“It’s not just a book about what NOT to do — it’s a bold, optimistic, and practical guide that inspires kids to become their most authentic, confident and adventurous self,” he stated.
